Nolan in his Jump-N-Go, Audrey making sure everything is safe :)
On July 11, 2009 we took Nolan swimming for the first time. We went to the NAS Whiting Wings Club pool. He wasn't too sure about the temperature of the water, it was actually cloudy and a bit chilly that day (chilly for Florida). It took a few minutes for him to get adjusted to the temperature and then he was fine. We spent about 30 minutes just floating him around...he loved it. At one point he was sticking his hand in the water and the sticking it in his mouth to taste the water.
Daddy gets the honors of taking me swimming for the first time, lets see how it goes...
Sticking the toes in to see his first reaction...okay for now.
Whoa Dad, this is toooooo cold, I don't like it!
Hanging out later on, this water isn't so bad.
Drying off...check on my super wrinkly toes...
Staying warm while we get him out of wet clothes...
Ready for the next adventure!
On July 14, 2009 we fed Nolan "real" food for the first time. He jumped right in and was enjoying it. We decided to wait until he was 6 months old to feed him. It was a good experience but a sad one as well. He is growing up so fast.
First bite...what is this stuff Mom?
Yummy, I like it!
I decided that I was going to try to make all of his baby food. It is so much fun! Plus it is extremely easy and EXTREMELY cheap! He really loves the squash I made. Not so fond of the peas I bought at our local farm, but he does like the frozen sweet baby peas I cooked up for him recently. I have done blueberries, nectarines, peaches, all sorts of stuff. I did buy some jarred apples and bananas for all the traveling I did reently. He likes them, but not as much as the fresh stuff. I steam the foods, puree them, stick them in ice cube trays to freeze, and then transfer to freezer bags. Quick and easy! These were the first foods I made.
From top left to bottom right: golden zucchini (bright yellow), zucchini (green), and yellow squash (dull yellow)
These are the peas I made...only tried them once, he threw them up pretty quickly. I will have to try them again soon to see if he has changed his mind :)
Our church has small groups called LifeGroups. We go to one at Bud and Deenie's house on Sunday nights (every other week). One week our youth pastor and his wife came. This is Nolan and their little girl Elah hanging out. Nolan is two weeks older than she is.
She is very tan, poor Nolan has my skin coloring...pasty pale!
On July 13, 2009 my mother's sister and her family came to visit. They were vacationing in Gulf Shores, AL and came down for dinner that evening. They went fishing on a charter boat that morning and they brought the tasty fish they caught to our house to cook. We had a major feast that night. We really enjoyed spending time with them. It was the first time they got to meet Nolan.
Daniel and Joel in the back.
Laura, Sarah, Amanda, Ryan and Nolan on the couch.
(Amanda and Joel are my cousins. Ryan and Laura are their spouses).
